Three Places Something Can Go

A refillable leather cover has three attachment points, and almost every accessory here belongs to one of them. Knowing which is the fastest way to work out what you actually need.

• On the inside elastics. This is where notebooks sit, and a leather insert takes one of those slots instead. You trade one notebook for card holders and a zip pocket.
• Around the cover. The two pen holders wrap the cover with their own elastic band, so the pen travels with the journal without using a notebook slot.
• On the closure band. A journal charm clips onto the elastic that holds the cover shut. Lobster clasp, one second, no untying.

Two things here attach to nothing: bookmark clips grip the paper itself, and the four pen cases zip shut and go in a bag on their own.

Paper Is Sized to the Paper, Not the Cover

The single most common ordering mistake. An A5 cover measures 6.3" × 9.1" (16 × 23 cm), but an A5 paper refill is 5.8" × 8.3" (14.8 × 21 cm), because the cover is deliberately cut larger than what goes inside it. Order refills and inserts by the size name of your cover and it works out; order by the cover's own measurements and you will get something too big.

Leather Goods That Are Not Journal Related

A small handful of pieces are cut from the same hide but have nothing to do with notebooks: the wallets, a makeup bag and a bracelet. They are here because they are made in the same workshop, not because they belong in a journal setup.

Marking Any of It

Leather accessories take the same four methods as the covers — laser engraving, heat-stamped letters, and that stamping in gold or silver foil. The metal Nameplate bookmark is engraved rather than stamped. Options are on personalized leather journals, and the covers themselves on leather journals.
