What Pocket Size Means Here

Pocket Size paper is 102 by 130 mm, or 4 by 5.1 inches, and the cover measures 4.3 by 5.4 inches. It is a squarer page than most small notebooks: wider than a Field Notes booklet but noticeably shorter, which is what lets it sit flat in a jacket or back pocket instead of sticking out of it.

Important: This Is Not the Moleskine Pocket Format

The names collide, so it is worth being direct. A Moleskine Pocket and a Field Notes booklet are both 3.5 by 5.5 inches, or roughly 89 by 140 mm. That is 3 mm taller than this cover, so those notebooks will not sit inside it properly. If that is what you carry, the cover you want is the Field Notes-compatible one, cut at 3.8 by 5.8 inches for exactly that format.

Pocket Size suits Asperaria's own Pocket refills and passport-format notebooks at around 89 by 124 mm, which fit with room to spare. When in doubt, measure the notebook rather than trusting the word printed on its cover.

What It Is Good At

Notes taken standing up. Shopping lists, gig setlists, quick sketches, a running to-do, addresses and numbers you would otherwise lose in a phone. This is a carry-everywhere size rather than a sit-down-and-write one, and it is usually somebody's second journal rather than their only one.
