The A6 leather cover measures 4.5" × 6.7" (11.4 × 17 cm) closed — small enough for a jacket pocket. It holds Hobonichi Techo Original, Midori MD A6, Stalogy A6 and Apica CD-10. Inserts sit snugly on the elastics; anything smaller will fit, but it will shift as you write.

About A6 Leather Journals

A6 Leather Journal Covers: the Pocket Size That Is Actually A6

A6 is half an A5 page and the smallest size that still takes a full line of handwriting. Every cover here is full-grain Crazy Horse leather, measures 4.5" × 6.7" (11.4 × 17 cm) closed, and carries its notebooks on elastic bands so you replace the paper and keep the cover.

A6 Size in Inches, Centimetres and Millimetres

A6 page — 4.1" × 5.8", 10.5 × 14.8 cm, 105 × 148 mm.

What does that look like in the hand? A6 is about the footprint of a large phone, a little wider and a little shorter. It goes in a coat pocket and a handbag; it does not go in most trouser pockets once a leather cover is around it.

Not Everything Sold as “A6” Is 105 × 148 mm

This is the most common surprise in this size, and it is worth checking before you order paper:

True A6 — 105 × 148 mm. Hobonichi Techo Original, Midori MD A6, Apica CD-10 and most European A6 notebooks.
Leuchtturm1917 Pocket A6 — 90 × 150 mm. Narrower and taller than true A6, despite the name.
Field Notes and Moleskine Pocket — 89 × 140 mm. Often shelved next to A6, but 16 mm shorter and 16 mm narrower. See Field Notes covers.
Passport size — 89 × 124 mm. Shorter again, and not the same as a physical passport, which is 88 × 125 mm as a closed book.

All of these fit an A6 cover, because a cover cut for the largest of them takes the rest. Anything under 105 × 148 mm simply sits with more leather showing and a little more movement on the elastics.

A6 or A5? The Short Version

A6 — 10.5 × 14.8 cm. Carried, not sat down with. Quick notes, travel, a daily line or two, lists.
A5 — 14.8 × 21 cm. Twice the page. Long entries, planning, sketching, anything that needs room. See A5 leather journals.
B6 — 12.5 × 17.6 cm. The size between them, if A6 is tight and A5 is too much. See B6 leather journals.

Most people who ask this end up owning both: A5 on the desk, A6 in the bag. They fill at different rates and do different jobs.

A6 as a Refillable Traveler’s Notebook

What size is an A6 journal in cm and inches?

An A6 page is 10.5 × 14.8 cm, which is 4.1" × 5.8" or 105 × 148 mm — exactly half an A5 sheet. The Asperaria A6 leather cover measures 11.4 × 17 cm (4.5" × 6.7") closed, cut larger than the paper so the notebook sits protected inside.

What does A6 size look like in the hand?

Roughly the footprint of a large phone — a little wider, a little shorter. It slips into a coat pocket, a handbag or the outside pocket of a rucksack. Is A6 the same size as a passport?

Close, but no. A passport is 88 × 125 mm as a closed book, and A6 is 105 × 148 mm — about 2 cm wider and 2 cm taller. The traveler's notebook format called Passport size is 89 × 124 mm, which does match a passport almost exactly. A Passport insert will fit an A6 cover, sitting with extra leather showing at the sides and the ends.

Is A5 or A6 better for a journal?

A5 if you write long entries, plan or sketch — it is twice the page at 14.8 × 21 cm. A6 if the journal travels with you and the entries are short. The honest answer is that they do different jobs, which is why so many people keep an A5 at the desk and an A6 in the bag. If A6 feels tight but A5 feels like too much, B6 sits between them at 12.5 × 17.6 cm.

Yes. Leuchtturm's Pocket A6 is 90 × 150 mm rather than true A6 at 105 × 148 mm — narrower and 2 mm taller — and the cover is cut at 114 × 170 mm, so it takes either. Hobonichi Techo Original, Midori MD A6, Apica CD-10, Field Notes and Moleskine Pocket all fit as well. Anything smaller than a true A6 will sit with more leather showing.
