What Size Is B6, Exactly?

ISO B6 paper is 125 by 176 mm, or 4.9 by 6.9 inches. That places it between A6 and A5: about 40 percent more page than A6, about 30 percent less than A5. The Asperaria B6 cover measures 5.2 by 7.2 inches, cut larger than the paper so the notebook sits protected inside.

ISO B6 or JIS B6? It Matters Here

B6 is one of the few sizes with two competing standards, and most shops never mention it. European and international notebooks use ISO B6 at 125 by 176 mm. Japanese notebooks use JIS B6 at 128 by 182 mm, which is 3 mm wider and 6 mm taller.

These covers are cut for ISO B6, which sits inside them with a comfortable margin. A JIS B6 notebook will still go on the elastic bands, but it ends up close to flush with the cover edges rather than protected by them. If your notebook came from a Japanese brand, measure it before ordering. Note also that B6 Slim, at 110 by 182 mm, is a different format again and is not what these covers are made for.

Why People Land on B6

Almost always because they tried the sizes either side first. A5 turned out to be the notebook that stayed on the desk; A6 turned out to be too narrow for a proper sentence. B6 is wide enough for a real paragraph and short enough to disappear into a handbag, which is why it has quietly become the default for planners and daily journals.

B6 Against the Sizes Either Side
