Leather Covers for Leuchtturm1917 Notebooks

Leuchtturm1917 Leather Covers, Measured

Leuchtturm1917 names its notebooks after paper sizes and then cuts them a little differently. The Medium is 3 mm narrower than A5. The Pocket is narrower than A6 and slightly taller. The Composition matches neither JIS nor ISO B5. None of that matters inside a cover until you reach the two ends of the range, the B6+ and the Master.

Every Leuchtturm1917 Size We Fit

• Medium (A5) — 5.7" × 8.3" (14.5 × 21 cm): A5 covers.
• Pocket (A6) — 3.5" × 5.9" (9 × 15 cm): A6 covers, with room at the sides.
• Paperback B6+ — 4.9" × 7.5" (12.5 × 19 cm): B6 covers, about 0.3 cm above and below.
• Composition (B5) — 7" × 10" (17.8 × 25.4 cm): B5 covers.
• Master A4+ — 225 × 315 mm: does not fit. Our A4 cover is 226 mm wide on the outside.

The Tight One and the One That Will Not Go

The Paperback B6+ is taller than a standard B6, so in our B6 cover it has about 0.3 cm to spare above and below, against roughly 1 cm for an ordinary B6. It works. It is also the tightest fit we sell, and the paper edge sits close to the leather edge. The Master A4+ is the opposite problem: it is a millimeter narrower than the outside of our A4 cover, which leaves nothing for it to sit inside. In inches both read 8.9", which hides it. For a Master, put the measurements in the order notes and ask about a custom cut.

Hardcover or Softcover

Both go on the elastic the same way: open the notebook at its center, slide the band through, close it. A hardcover Medium adds stiffness and a few millimeters of thickness, and nothing else changes. The numbered pages and the index at the front still work, since the notebook itself is untouched.

What Goes on the Other Bands

A Medium takes one band. The others can hold our A5 paper refills, plain, lined or dotted, a leather insert for cards, or a notebook from another brand: a Hobonichi Cousin or a Stalogy 365Days, for instance. Pen cases and bookmark clips cover the rest.

Leather and Color

Six leathers, all full-grain Crazy Horse: Black Onyx, Chestnut, Forest Green, Bordeaux, Cognac and Caramel. Black Onyx, Chestnut and Forest Green are nearly the same depth; Caramel is the lightest. A cover can be personalized before checkout, and the leather journal covers page shows every size side by side.
